Stable Audio is the AI music tool for people whose lawyers get a vote. While Suno and Udio built astonishing song machines on contested catalogs and settled with the labels afterwards, Stability trained on licensed AudioSparx data from day one, then signed partnerships with Universal and Warner. The product itself has quietly become capable: up to six minutes of coherent instrumental audio, audio-to-audio restyling, inpainting to fix a section without regenerating the piece, and — genuinely unique in this category — open weights for three of the four Stable Audio 3.0 models, small enough that one runs on a phone. Where it shines is texture: sound effects, foley, loops, and samples that drop straight into a production.

What it doesn't do is sing. There are no vocals at any price, and on pure musicality of a full track the blind-test winners are still Suno and Udio — Stable Audio's compositions can feel like competent beds rather than songs. The tier structure (upload minutes, MAU thresholds, mandatory Enterprise above $1M revenue) shows Stability's hard pivot toward professional and label work, and small annoyances remain: billing is monthly only, unused generations vanish, and the pricing page doesn't even say which download formats each tier gets. Stability's rocky 2024 is visible in its parent-company Trustpilot page, though the complaints are mostly about other products.

Verdict: the pick for producers, video editors, and developers who want commercially safe raw material — especially sound design, where the song generators don't compete. If the deliverable is a finished song, Suno remains the answer; if it's audio you'll shape, license, or ship inside a product, Stable Audio is the safest tool in the category.
