Wordtune earned its 10-million-user base by nailing a specific moment in writing: the sentence that's correct but not quite right. Highlight it, and Wordtune returns a stack of genuinely natural rewrites with a tone dial from casual to formal — an interaction that still feels better than QuillBot's mode-shuffling or Grammarly's one-suggestion-at-a-time corrections. The free 10-rewrites-a-day tier is enough to keep it installed for occasional email polish.

The uncomfortable context is the company behind it. AI21 Labs pivoted hard to enterprise models and agents, publicly reducing Wordtune investment in April 2025, and it shows: the feature set has barely moved while QuillBot bundled a translator, citation generator, and plagiarism checker, and DeepL Write pushed multilingual rewriting.
