Our review

Superhuman's reputation rests on something unfashionable: it is fast. Not AI-fast — keyboard-fast. The Split Inbox does the single most useful thing an email tool can do, which is separate the twelve messages that need you from the two hundred that do not, and then the shortcuts let you clear them without touching the mouse. Two weeks in, going back to Gmail feels like wading. That is the product, and the AI sits on top of it rather than replacing it.

The AI is good rather than transformative. Auto Summarize earns its place on a forty-message thread you have been added to at message thirty-nine. Auto Drafts genuinely imitate your phrasing — close enough that editing beats writing — which is more than most AI email tools manage. But those two features, along with Ask AI and CRM sync, live on Business at $33/month billed annually, so the tier most people are quoted, Starter at $25, is mostly the fast client with light AI writing.

Then there is the naming mess, which is worth stating plainly because it will cost people money. Grammarly bought Superhuman in 2025, took its name, and now sells a four-product suite where Free and Pro ($12/month) do not include Mail at all — you need Business at $33. So "Superhuman is $12 a month" is both true and useless if the email client is what you wanted. We review Mail and Grammarly as separate products because they are separate products, sharing an owner and a bill.

Verdict: the best AI email client available, and worth it for anyone whose calendar is mostly a consequence of their inbox. Everyone else should try the Split Inbox idea in Gmail for free first and see whether the remaining gap is worth $300 a year.

Is Superhuman Mail worth $25 a month?

It depends entirely on how much of your day is email. If you process a hundred messages a day, the triage speed pays for itself quickly. If you get twenty, Gmail with a good filter setup does most of the same job for nothing, and the honest answer is no.

Does Superhuman Mail work with any email provider?

No. It supports Gmail and Microsoft 365 accounts only. There is no IMAP support and no self-hosted Exchange, so Fastmail, Proton and personal domains outside those two providers are out.
