Pros
- Best-in-class UI output — clean React/Tailwind on shadcn/ui that drops into real codebases
- Free plan's $5 of monthly credits is enough to evaluate it seriously
- One-click Vercel deploy and GitHub sync close the idea-to-live loop
- Public Platform API lets you build your own AI app builder on top of v0
Cons
- Plus costs $30/user/month with no annual discount
- Credits drain fast when you iterate on complex screens — retries and fixes all bill
- Much weaker on backend logic and multi-step app flows than on UI generation
Our verdict
Best for: Frontend teams and founders who want polished, production-usable UI from a prompt.
Skip if: You need full apps with real business logic — Lovable, Bolt, or an AI editor like Cursor go further past the UI layer.
Our review
Editorial score: 4.3 out of 5v0's pitch is narrow and it nails it: the best-looking, most keepable UI code of any prompt-to-app tool. Because it generates on shadcn/ui and Tailwind — the de facto stack of modern Next.js — the components it produces look like something a good frontend engineer wrote, TypeScript types and accessibility attributes included. Screenshot and Figma imports make it a genuine design-to-code bridge, and the one-click path to a live Vercel deployment is the fastest idea-to-URL loop in the category.
The weaknesses show up past the UI layer. Multi-step flows, backend logic, and data wiring drift or break in ways rivals like Lovable and Bolt handle more gracefully, and the credit meter punishes exactly the iteration that fixing those problems requires. Pricing has also crept upward: the current Plus plan is $30/user/month with no annual discount, and heavy sessions can burn through included credits quickly. The free plan's $5 of monthly credits is a real trial, not a workspace.
The under-appreciated angle is the Platform API: v0 is the only tool in this class that lets you embed its generation pipeline in your own product over REST, which makes it as much infrastructure as app.
Verdict: the default choice for UI prototyping and design-to-code, especially if you already live in the Next.js/Vercel ecosystem. Choose Lovable or Bolt if you want a whole working app without touching code, and a real editor like Cursor once logic outweighs layout.
What reviewers elsewhere say
78% positive — Reviewers praise the clean shadcn/Tailwind code quality and speed to a working UI; complaints center on credit burn during iteration and drift on complex custom logic.

v0 as an agent

What you give it access to
Nothing of yours — it works in an isolated sandbox.
What to watch for
- Credit cost per message rises with context, so long refinement sessions get expensive
- Output targets one stack — React, Tailwind and shadcn/ui — and fights anything else
- Generates interface code, not a working backend
How it bills
Credits. One task here means one prompt → a React and Tailwind interface you iterate on before exporting. Messages consume credits that scale with model and context size, and the monthly allowance does not roll over.
Agent capabilities checked August 2026. Not hands-on tested — these are the vendor's documented capabilities, read carefully. Limits and permissions change between checks, so confirm approval settings and any spending cap before you connect an account. Compare every AI agent.

What is v0?
v0 is Vercel's AI app builder. You describe an interface in plain English and it generates working React and Next.js code styled with shadcn/ui and Tailwind, which you can edit, deploy to Vercel, or export to GitHub.
How much does v0 cost?
The free plan includes $5 of monthly AI credits. Plus is $30/user/month and Business is $100/user/month, each including $30 of monthly credits plus $2 of free daily credits on login. Enterprise is custom. There is no annual billing discount.
Does v0 have an API?
Yes. The v0 Platform API (public beta) exposes the full generate-project-deploy lifecycle over REST with a TypeScript SDK, and the Model API lets you call v0's coding models directly — you can build your own AI app builder on top of it.
Is the code from v0 production-ready?
For UI, largely yes — it follows React best practices with TypeScript, accessibility attributes, and responsive design on shadcn/ui. Backend wiring and complex multi-step logic usually still need a developer's hand.
v0 vs Lovable and Bolt — which should I pick?
Pick v0 for the highest-quality UI code and Next.js/Vercel workflows. Lovable and Bolt go further on complete full-stack apps with auth and databases for non-developers, but their output is less commonly kept by professional teams.
